Odd question

My husband and I have been debating. We are from southern Indiana and hear it pronounced both ways, but I thought I read that one way was favored over the other...

As people who live there...how do you pronounce Carribbean? Is it CARE-uh-be-un OR Cuh-RIB-e-un?

Yes, I know...it's a strange question...but it actually is a serious one. lol

Thanks!

I don't know, but then I also don't know if it's ta-may'toe or Ta-mod-oh. LOL

Pronounce it however, I guess, just remember that it is spelled "Caribbean" with one "r"

As a relative old-timer, it all goes back to the Carib tribe who drove out the Arawaks.

When here you're either in the carIB-e-um or the CARRIB-ean. Not much help where your question is concerned, I suppose, but who gives a real doss? So few here pay much attention to history anyway!

I'll just stick with the Spanish version of "Caribe" - no confusion in pronunciation here!

Hello,

Here's a vote for Cuh-rib-e-an, not sure its the favored or correct way but its my favored way.
