You need to contact the VI Nursing Licensing Bureau (which I think can be reached at the VI Government Website), and be prepared to fill out lots of paper and provide a ton of background material (transcripts, test scores, etc.). My wife went thru that before we moved down, and it was a real pain, and not fast. When she comes back from work, I'll see if she can provide some more specifics.

If she hasn't spoken to the folks at the Board of Nursing Licensure at 340- 776-7397, she should. Most licenses take more than two weeks around here!

Diana,
Max just told me that you are trying to get your VI nursing license. The rules down here are a bit different, in that not only do you need certification from your current state of licensure, you also need your original state of licensure (eg,the state where you took your NCLEX), copies of your NCLEX scores, photo ID x2 like for a passport, copies of your current license, letters of reference from two supervisors, a copy of your birth certificate, and heaven help us, I don't remember what else!!!!!! For a place that is in desparate need of RN's, they sure do not make it easy. As suggested above, best to call the Board of Nursing or e-mail them and ask for the paperwork. Once all is submitted, they will not notify you that you need to go to the nursing board and have yet another picture taken in order to get your license, you will have to keep calling them. Keep copies of everything that you turn in so when you go there you can validate that everything they ask for is in your record and not misfiled with someone else!
Then, once you do get your license, be ready for pay shock---or rather low pay shock, irregardless of your education and experience!
But then, this is paradise and I think its worth all the governmental red tape to be able to continue nursing (I'm retired, only work part time). So best of luck to you and happy to hear there are those in the world who are RN's and ready to work!
Irene

You might want to contact Ms Cohen- Nurse recruiter at RLS Hospital in STT also. She is very nice and she sent me an application. Her phone Number is 340-776-8311. The following adress may also help: Virgin Islands Board of Nurse Licensure
post Office Box #4247
Saint Thomas, US Virgin Islands 00803
There is a $75.00 fee and as mentioned- Lots of paperwork. Good Luck
