Nursing in the VI
Hello,
I am thinking of coming to work in the VI as a nurse. Currently I work on a CVICU in OH. What hospital do you recommend working at? Is it better to go as a traveling nurse? What is the pay like, as I understand that it is not as good as in the states? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Jason
Hello,
I have some information that can help you. I currently work at Roy Lester Schneider Hospital on St. Thomas, that is the only hospital on St. Thomas and St. John. I would absolutely come as a traveler before you decide to move down here permanently. As an RN, BSN you make approx $20-25 an hour if you are staff. If you come as a traveler you make $25-27 an hour plus housing allowance which is $800-1,000 monthly. Your contract is usually only three months but they are very willing to extend if you'd like. I hope this helps a little.
good luck with your decision!
Thanks for the great information. Just wanted an idea before moving down. This has been very helpful. How do you like the hospital that you work at? What kind of hours do you work? Thanks again.
Do a search on MellissaS or MelissaS, she recently got a job as a traveling nurse on STX from Oh. By the way, where at in Oh. I'm from Toledo and moving down next week (hopefully)!
I am living and working in cleveland, at the clinic. What hospital do you plan on working at? BTW, thank you Eve!
Have had relatives in need of the Cleveland Clinic. Never my self (Knocking on wood). I am not a nurse btw. Good luck with everything and don't limit yourself to just Stt. The traveling programs work with the hospitol on StX as well. I will be on StX, if you ever need anything from that end, send me a private message(PM) and let me know.
