Nurse Practitioner considering relocation
I am a Family Nurse Practitioner with experience both in the ER and family practice. My husband and I are considering a relocation to ST. John , USVI in the next few years, but I am curious what the laws, restrictions, etc. are regarding NP practice. Also, are there jobs available either in private practice or with the government. and where would I begin searching?
thanks for any info,

Leila: You might peruse the http://www.srmedicalcenter.org/ website. Schneider Regional comprises RLS Hospital and Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institure on St Thomas and MKS Clinic on St John.
There are always doctors looking for NPs, also the ER ALWAYS needs help. I am not aware of the NP licensing and practice act, but I would not be surprised if they were quite different from the states.
thanks so much for the information. Is there an ER on St. John or would that be on St. Thomas? I would really love to work on SJ if possible. I am still looking around for information regarding licensure, etc. I live in Florida now which is one of the more confining states for NPs. Most other states allow fairly independent practice.
Keep me posted if you hear of any other contacts.
thanks again!
The Myra Keating Smith Clinic is the health facility on St John. It has limited emergency capabilities- patients are evacuated to St Thomas. I would imagine that in the territory the rules are also confining for NPs. You might try the Board of Nurse Licensure 340-776-7397 for more information.
I'm an RN with ER, dialysis and clinic management experience and am in the beginnings of getting liscensure to work in the VI. I am also looking for the right agency to manage this for me.
www.vibnl.org is the site you want for the practice act and related info
I'm really excited! Our boys are 19 and 20 and are coming too and my husband will be joining us! After years of him working and slaving, I'm looking forward to some family time away from here. A change of pace for us nad a new perspective for the boys.
Please do a search on "nursing" if you haven't already - the travel nurses get paid a LOT more than the local ones, and some get a housing stipend and assistance with moving. I believe Melissa S, who is on STX, posted the name of a company she is working for about a month or two ago.
