Notice to White People:
You are welcome to join in the J'Ouvert and other Carnival Season festivities, just as we locals have embraced St. Patrick's Day and Mardi Croix.
Your absence at J'Ouvert was noticeable, as demonstrated by the sea of Black in the pictures on VI Consortium and Facebook.
We are not dangerous people, we love to have a good time and a good time it was.
Stop polarizing the island...all ah we are one. End the fear for the New Year.
Many times photos in the Avis show mostly white people at many events. It is easy to get the impression that these are white islands which is the impression a friend of mine had.
We are just too old to stay out for J'Ouvert. But, we are so looking forward to Stanley's Foreday Serenade tonight!!! We've missed that while off island. We are where we get a really nice, long serenade.
Right on page 2 of the Avis there's a photo of two white girls who were at J'ouvert.
I was busy on Saturday afternoon and didn't have time to get drunk and party. Then I went to the St. Croix Christmas Boat Parade that evening.
Hahahaha! Good point, well taken! And I especially appreciate the sentiment behind it.

Very true. I love how the St. Patrick's Day parade floats and performers have become a sea of diversity, although I have to admit with some embarrassment that the parade route is often disproportionately lined with hard drinking/smoking/stumbling white people in whose company I'm reluctant to bring my family.

To be fair, don't overlook the fact that after the agonizing attrition of Hovensa-related jobs and people, there are a heck of a lot fewer "continentals" on St. Croix than there have been for the last generation or two.

I've never been to the J'ouvert or carnival village, but the children's and adult's parades are a treat I enjoy attending and occasionally participating in very much, and I have never felt the least hesitation or concern in doing so.
It's not for me to say whether I "belong" here, or whether I've earned the coveted "he or she's one of us" that native Virgin Islanders will occasionally say of continentals, but having lived here nearly half of my alarmingly long life I see my community, those around me whom I love and can trust, as being comprised mostly of local people. I guess what I'm saying is that with enough time and effort and an open heart one can adopt a culture that one has not been born into.
End the fear for the New Year.
Indeed.
Not enough white faces in the paper: complain.
Too many white faces in the paper: complain.
hubby just had surgery. he is still not up for jumping around. and i thought there was no your and ours? i thought they were all ours?

I've seen many more locals at the Texas Chili Festival lately,
Good point! Love it!
We are just too old to come out so early in the morning. We will go to the adult parade though.
If I were 30 years younger, I'd love to participate! I love the culture here and enjoy it being shared with those not born here. I live here and love STX with all my heart! It's my home!

LOL! I bet all those guys in Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Nights are no spring chickens either...heck, they woke ME up at 5:00 a.m. 😀
I thought Stanley and his mates were much quieter this year than last. The Mrs even slept through it. Last year it seemed like they parked outside my bedroom door and played multiple sets!
(BTW. I think you need to start a new thread titled "Re: Notice to Black People:" just so we can be all inclusive. Oh the irony of it all, senior rusty, adios, syonara, tchau, au revoir, dag, do svidaniyi.)
to me they were louder that last year they woke me up early
Attention White People... Im sitting here laughing. Love it. We are definitely looking forward to getting with all of the festivals and traditions on the island once we arrive!
