Normal mail service - timing
Good Afternoon. What is the typically amount of time for mail to be delivered through the U.S. Postal Service from the mainland? Does priority shipping typically help, or does it not have much of an impact on the service? I am asking because we plan on shipping several boxes through the USPS from WI to St. John as part of our moving process. Also, wondering how long just a typical piece of mail can take.
For me, shipping boxes via "snail mail" parcel rate from TX to VI they were about $30 each to ship for boxes weighing 25 - 35 pounds (you'll have to check for your specific weights/rates) and they took anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks to arrive.
Shipping priority does make a difference in speed but there are weight limits and it rapidly becomes tremendously expensive if you're shipping more than a box or two.
It's a roll of the dice. Sometimes mail gets here quickly, sometimes it doesn't. No rhyme or reason for it.
I just got something today, mailed from STJ, yesterday.:-o I have had USPS express mail from FL take 5-6 days.
Just be sure to get a tracking number if you can.
JulieKay & Alana33,
Thank you for responding! This information is very helpful. 🙂
The mail service here is mostly the same as stateside. However, it can be prone to delays once in a while, mostly around Christmas. Generally, its pretty reliable.
i find typical mail can take 3-5 days. when i have shipped boxes from the states-up to 3 weeks.
Flat rate boxes about a week or usually less.
