No Option for VI as the State in the New Address
I was in Anchorage a few years ago for a city clerks convention and it was very odd going to bed at 11 or 12 at night and it still be twilight.
We stayed at the Captain Cook and liked it a lot. Funny story. We just got in and my roommate was hot and tired from the flight. She couldn't find the A/C switch so she called the front desk. She asks about the a/c, starts to laugh and hangs up. She then goes over to the closet and pulls out a floor fan. Seems they didn't have a/c. If you were hot, you opened the window and turned on the fan stored in the closet.
My point about Alaska was that many small towns either don't have roads leading into them or the roads are impassible part of the year. All travel in and out is by way of small plane, just like being on an island. Sorry I wasn't clear.
Wife and I cruised the Inside Pasage up to Glacier Bay AK this past May. Did the Yukon railway daytrip, etc. Saw the humpbacks up close. Spectacular scenery. Nice people. But wouldn't want to live there. Strangest thing: there's a Walmart near the base of Alaska's most famous glacier: Mendenhall. Startling sight really.
Linda's "island" analogy is right on.
