We haven't had cable in 3 days. Hubby just called and asked if they knew there was a problem in Cotton Valley. They said yes. He asked did they know when it would be fixed. They said no. I'm done with it. Not a big TV watcher but I sure am tired of paying for this crap.

Tammy I'm down the road and I'm ready to give up my basic cable and phone. An antenna will get a few channels which is enough for me. My phone hasn't worked since June 4th. I'm thinking I'll get a VI broadband connection and go with a magic jack for telephone..
Internet TV is improving so that should be a viable option in the near future, I just don't watch enough to invest in dish

Hubby and JJ are really missing their discovery and science channels. We just quit worrying about the phone and are only using our cells. We never know when it is on or off.

Bombi, do you know anyone who is using a Magic Jack? I'm wondering if VI Broadband's Internet speeds are really fast enough for it to work very well. Just curious; thanks!

No but I know people using Vonage and Skype. The reason I want to try magic jack is that my SO is technically challenged.

I hear mixed reviews about majic jack. Was on a call with a lady the other day that has one and she was cutting in and out. She was also saying "%&$%#@%$ Majic Jack. Long delay as well. Others love it. Not sure who her internet provider is. For the price I don't think you can go wrong.
Try it and see.

Gotcha. I myself had mixed results using Skype with broadband DSL (delays in the voice transmission); didn't like it. For me it was fine as a backup, but not something I would want to use regularly. Thanks for the info!

Get satellite. we never have any problems with it. Except when we have a hard rain then we may lose signal for a few minutes.

Have had sat. for years and it is well worth it. Before a hurricane just take the dish down and when storm passes put dish back up and there is goes. convinced after hurricane maryland only way to go.

Most people don't take the dish down but the prudent choice is to protect it.
After Omar I only had minor tuning to do as repairs. Most were fine and required no attention. Including east end.
They rate them at 120 MPH but it depends on how it's mounted. I've seen them survive that and more with no problems.

Glad to hear you have no regrets about going Dishnetwork.:D

I have been using both Skype and Magic Jack and have had no problems using BroadBandVI. Have Skype on iphone and it works very well to make international calls from any hotspot.

Just for a laugh, you know I have to ask if you want Direct TV?

Actually, I have used SKYPE and am pleased. We set up webcabs so my mom in FL and I can watch ball games on TV together and talk. It's been great. I am not a big techie and yes there are some delays, etc. but we enjoy it. The price is right!

Be sure to call the billing office of whatever provider is NOT performing for you and demand credit for service not provided. I advise all my clients to do this whenever they experience outages. It's the only way I know to affect change. By hitting them in the bottom line, they will have to address the real problems or NOT GET PAID!

One of our tenants just got Magicjack yesterday. We have Broadband VI, and so far (just one day) he is liking it just fine. Had to get a stateside number. 340 was not available. Don't know if that means people here on island having to call a stateside number will get billed for long distance. I assume they will. So far he has made and received calls, both local and stateside, all with good transmission.
