DO NOT go to Caribbean Auto Mart! You'll have a new car before you leave.

Why does a Nissan key cost that much?
Is it an alarm key? Seems overpriced.

It has a transponder chip inside that communicates with the anti theft device. That's actually cheap considering some cars have keys that are laser cut and start at about $200.00.
I don't think the $7.00 key is the correct one. If it doesn't have the chip inside and you attempt to start the car with it, the car will think it's a thief and shut down for hours or days. Even if you use the correct key right after it.

Did the locksmith also reprogram the lock system to match the new key? This service alone cost me $85 in CT. All the keys must be done at the same time. BTW the dealer wanted $150.

Yes they had to hook a computer into the truck to program it.
They said Nissan was the most complicated

Yup. Nissan is the worst. It takes at least an hour and you'll be charged $100.00 for it. And if the computer crashes like it usaually does, it fries the computer in your car and it's dead until they get another one.

Think I'll stick with my 16 yr. old Toyota Tacoma pick-up.
It runs and works great and looks pretty too with none of the hassle of these newer models that when you look under the hood, you have no idea of what you're looking at. (At least don't and I do know something) It's been a darned good vehicle with just minimal problems. Change the oil, check the clutch and the brakes, sometimes replace, keep good tires and you are good to go. I'd hate it if a problem with a key prevented me from using a car or cost that much to replace. That's nuts.

I have a black/gold convertible Trans Am that I bought after getting a settlement for getting diabetes from a prescription drug. I spent my money wisely - the car has actually gained value since i bought it.

Unfortunately you have to lift the body off the frame to change the spark plugs.

What year T/A and what engine? Something doesn't sound right.

I used to have a 1976 Pontiac Trans Am with T-top and 455 4spd. It was a 50th anniversary edition. Black with Golden Eagle. This was back in the Smoky and the Bandits days. Radar detectors front and rear. And CB radio.

I googled it and no one said anything about lifting the body off the frame. I think you've been had. A difficulty rating of 9 out of 10 but no body/frame seperation. What GM should have done is put 100k mile platinum plugs in it. If anything qualified for them it was this car. They wanted to keep production costs down and screwed the public in the process. Besides, what do they care? They don't have to get their hands dirty or pay for it.

I was told about the frame thing by a mechanic that had no time working on my car. Maybe he was just joking around.
