New Pet Regulations?
Hello!
I know there are posting on this and I have read them all and even contacted American Airlines just to make sure there have not been any changes in policy. Since I did, I have a question concerning what the customer servie rep told me.
She said when going through customs in St. Thomas I will not only have to show a health certificate and up-to-date rabies shots for my 2 cats, but also some sort of permit from the Department of Agriculture. I think she may be confused. I have seen no posting refering to this and nothing on the American Airlines website under the sections on transporting pets.
If anyone has heard on this permit from the Department of Agriculture please let me know. I was thinking of contacting customs in St. Thomas so I do not run into any problems before moving.
Thanks so much !!!

Kelly, you won't be going thru anything when you arrive, only the gate to get to baggage claim! Just have the proper docs from the vet, showing up to date shots and you should be ok!

KJ,
As Ronnie mentioned when you enter St. Thomas from a US port you do not pass through immigration or customs. You get off the plane walk to the terminal and to baggage claim. Unless you are coming in from a foreign airport (perhaps St. Martin, St. Barths, Anguilla, Dominica or one of the other independent/foreign islands in the Caribbean) then you won't pass through customs.
So any documentation you will need will be when asked passing through airport check points on route from where ever you are coming from. And as far as I understand those include the vet docs about health and shots.
When you leave St. Thomas to go back to the US you then pass through customs, agriculture and immigration.
