New Ferry at Green Cay Marina
If anyone wants a close look the new STX/STT ferry is docked at Green Cay Marina.
Has the new ferry actually made a test run to STT and back yet???
I've seen all I need to see. It bobs around just like any other boat on the water.
I'll take the plane, thanks.
If it floats, it bobs, especially at anchor.
Depends how it cuts thru the water under way and how well it responds in high seas which will be the true test.
There were videos of the sea trials - didn't look very smooth to me.
Is this the very first ferry between STX and STT? I'm curious as to why it wasn't offered in the past.
We had one until about five years ago. It was doing a charter run from STJ to STT when the captain ran it aground. It was sent north for repairs. We've been without since.
The ferry which ran aground was the last of several which had plied the route over the years. All were recommissioned "seconds" from outside the USVI. This boat is completely different as it was built locally specifically for this crossing. According to an article in today's Source it's awaiting sea trials in 6' swell conditions for completion of all its permitting.

We are expecting 6-7' swells this afternoon so hopefully...

Yes. It has.
A week or so ago there was a day trip to STT (and back) with Gold Coast staff aboard. Personal friends of mine reported a pleasant ride.

Ferry update from Goldcoast:
"Quick update. MSC said they will issue formal response with “go ahead” for the rest of the testing early next week. We can then prep the boat and conduct the last trial ASAP once seas are correct. Hopefully that will happen by the 14th."

I recently saw an ad seeking a part time ferry boat captain. Craig's List maybe?
