Neil: Hospitals
Neil: You asked about nursing opportunities in another thread. I thought I'd start one on that topic for you.
There have been several discussions on this recently. There is currently a recruiting drive at the Schneider Regional Medical Center (St Thomas and St John) http://www.srmedicalcenter.org/ for nurses and other professionals. Your wife (and other possible applicants) can look around that site and get an idea of the programs offered. There are lots of other nursing possibilities, as everywhere. Public schools, private offices, community health, home care, home hospice and skilled nursing are some of the possibilities.
Thanks EastEnder, I appreciate the start.
We'd really like to email/PM with employees of both hospitals (STX STT).
Heard and read some good things about each, but have also heard some not so good things.
(STT flunking Jayco accreditation for example, and the accounting problems at STX. A few old posts about their treatment of nurses in general.)
Would also be interested in hearing from those who have experience with the materinity wards at each.
Neil: Schneider Regional *is* accredited by Joint Commission. The hospital is not perfect, but has changed mightily in the last 5-10 years. Remember, if you need stateside amenities, you will be disappointed.
Neil~ I work at the Gov JFL Hospital in St. X and have been here since last year. We did pass JAACO accreditation last month. There is a huge nursing shortage presently and I can't say that conditions are optimal. However, the need is great and the opportunity for service is huge. Appreciation from patients is big. Accounting remains a problem, but I'm not hearing about nurses missing pay like I did when I first came. I note they did recently pay off 800,000of their WAPA bill.... ; ) see: http://www.jflusvi.org/ for more info.
good luck
Roger
