Need for doctors
In July 2004 my husband will be finishing his family medicine residency. We have considered moving to USVI. We vacationed in St. John and loved it, but it is probably too expensive to live there. We weren't very impressed with what we saw of St. Thomas. Too much like mainland living. Any opinions on St. Croix? Housing costs seem to be reasonable. What is the need for doctors? Thanks for any help!
My in-laws are interested in retiring to the US Virgin islands. They don't know if their insurance in the states is accepted on the islands or not. Also, is medicare accepted and what about social security benefits? Thanks for any help.
STX appears to be a nice compromise between STT & STJ. It has some rural areas like STJ, but it has some urban area like STT. The snorkeling is great too. We plan to move to STX next summer.
I can tell you Medicare and your Social Security is no problem. Your mainland insurance may be different. If it is an HMO forget it. PPO you have a chance depending on your insurance Co. They are the ones to ask for that answer.
Lesley: You might peruse the Juan Luis Hospital web site: www.jflusvi.org. Most physicians make contact with the chief of medicine for the respective hospital, or contact other physicians on the island of choice.
East Ender: Thanks for your help! On which island is this hospital located?
Juan Luis is on St Croix, you said you weren't interested in St Thomas, I think...
