Need advice
First off, if people are as friendly and helpful on the island as they are on this message board then I'm looking forward to living there for awhile even more! I'm coming down to St. Thomas for a short-term stay (1-2 months). I have a few questions (some may be dumb but they need to be asked- haha).
a) will my mainland cell phone continue to work on the island?
b) i'm considering looking into some part-time employment to pass the time. any pointers on where to look for work? I'd love something involving working with people (bartending, restaurant, hotel, etc.)
c) I'm a 28 year old male looking primarily for rest and relaxation but I also like to go out and have a fun time and love people. where should i be looking for apartments?
d) I won't have transportation besides my own two feet. how is public transportation? I understand there are buses but I'm trying to determine how reliable they are and how late they run.
I think that is it for right now but I'm sure I will think of additional questions later!
Thanks.
Whether you cell will work here depends on your provider. In many cases, it also depends on where you are on island. Jobs are scarce here, and high season has ended, so while you may find something, you can't count on it. I don't know where to point you for an apartment, but since you won't be signing a lease you may be limited to vacation rentals. You can check out the Island Trader, which is available online ( http://islandtrader.vidaily.com/) Public transportation is limited, so you will want to be sure to get a place near a safari route. You might want to stay at Villa Fairview ( http://villafairviewusvi.com/) while you're looking for a longer term place, as renting a place before you see it and its surroundings is unwise. Good Luck!
Sprint works with no roaming, but Verizon does not.
As far as a place to stay you did not say when you are coming down. You need to be by the safari bus. We MAY have an apartment for you.
PM me if interested.

Thanks - I'll be arriving on June 30th. I'm thinking I may get a hotel room that night until I get my bearings and then make a decision on the rest of the month after I do some onsite research. Any suggestions for centrally located and cheap hotels for a one-night stay?
I'm torn between looking for the month in or around Charlotte-Amalie versus Red Hook. Any suggestions? Also - I'm interested in enjoying the night life. What is it like trying to get home at some of the later hours? I've heard walking is not a safe idea (or possible depending on where you live). Does the bus go late? Thanks.
Company street motel, you also get a voucher for breakfast at the King Street Hotel, they may still be construction so they have discounted rates,($65) knowing how things operate there the construction may never end!!
The buses don't drive late night in St. Thomas & neither do the safaris. You'd have more cheap options on places to stay in Charlotte Amalie.
