Patricia,

STT is nothing like the Bahamas. Not only our location, either! haha! The Bahamas are in the Atlantic Ocean, whereas, we are the dividing line from the Atlantic and the Caribbean (except for STX, which isentirely inb the Caribbean). The Northern coasts are in the Atlantic. Southern, the Caribbean. You can work here without getting a visa/work permit (which is required in the Bahamas). The culture is completely different. So is the atmosphere. I would recommend a PMV to check it out first. I, personally, thing that the USVI is perfect....for me. As for what might be prefect for you, well, you just gotta keep serching! Haha!

You will be able to find housing and a job faily easy. Just keep on this board and someone will know of something coming available for your time frame. Who knows, you might even have a job and a place to stay before youget here!

Tiff,

I, too, am from Michigan. Been here 7 years and I don't plan on ever going back to MI except to visit!! I absolutely LOVE it here! I am from Lake Orion, about an hour north of Detroit. 15 mintues North of the Place of Auburn Hills. Where that big melee just made the news froml ast night? Where are you from? I think you will like it here SOOOOO much better than California! Just my HO, but this place blows the States away!! Then again, maybe you are the type to thrive on driving in traffic, road rage, rude people, smog, crowds, earthquakes, gangs, drugs...the list just goes on and on! haha! Island life is definitely for me. Come down and check it out...might be for you, too.

As for flights, from Detroit Metro (DTW) to St. Thomas (STT), they are always pricey. A cheaper alternative is to get a round trip ticket form DTW to San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU-I think), then get a ticket on the seplane (www.seaborneairlines.com/) from Old San Juan to STT. That'll save you some money.

Hey everyone,

I just stumbled across all this infromation too. I made a post under another topic, but am planning on doing the same thing as many of you. Tiff, Crystal, Sean, Patrick, etc....we should def all try to get to know eachother before heading down. I think it would make this expierience much more exciting. I will be flying out of Boston sometime around the holidays or shortly before.

My aunt lives in St Thomas yet I have yet to get ahold of her, other then that I have never been and do not know anyone. Plan on doing something like serving/bartending or anything outside in the sun!!

Anyone can email me at CJboulier@msn.com, we should all get to know eachother. Talk to you all later.

Caleb

I like the impromptu "Real World" idea! LOL.....so do we have 6 of us that will all be there by the 1st of Jan?

On a serious note, splitting a house sounds like a good idea to me, and something I would be interested in. I attempted to email a few of you but got returned "errors" with the address, crystal, I think yours was one of them.

Don,

I used to live in Lake Orion before moving here and, at one time, I worked for R&D Distributing...#1 since '73!..remember that sign on M-59? That's where I got my start in sales! Selling vacuums door to door! Anything I can do to help, feel free to ask.

Howdy all

I have seen ya'lls recent messages about moving down to St. Thomas. I am planning on moving on january 15th, if anyone wants to split a house I am definitly in. Anyone know about how much it would cost to ship a Ford Expedition from Texas???

Thanks

I would recommend selling it in TX and buying one when you get here. You will probably find that you will be happier with a smaller SUV here, and it will probably be less than what you got for your Expedition..so, I 'm thinking...BOAT!!! Yay!

hey guys
sorry i have been absent from the posts so long but school has been keeping me bogged down (22 credits this semester to finish up and get down to the sun and out of the michigan snow). it's fun to see so many of us from mi, the snowy states and boston (i lived there last summer). anyways i am getting pumped now with all the great ideas floating around- here is my deal- i would love to share a house (boys/girls whatever ) i am 22 and looking to meet people to hang with. i am down for whatever as long as i can get to know people a little first to ease my mind- we don't have to do anything permanent until we all figure it out and can get down there to see if we are compatable and would have a blast together do we?hey i am even up for meeting anyone who is in mi or the area for a drink somewhere to get things rolling- i will be in boston in a few weeks too. as far as jobs go i am looking for a server or bar position..any suggestions for a jump start there? i have tons of experience. thanks guys and hopefully i will hear from you guys soon- peanut0288@gmail.com
can't wait - Crsytal

ok i just read my post and it sounded sorta pervy - trust me i am not but is there really any way to not sound pathetic and weird on the internet? especially with this moving away on our own situation most of us are dealing with? 😉 anywho i hope you guys are like me and just want to go have a blast in a beautiful place while making money for awhile before i go back to school..or go to europe for the summer..wherever i end up or whatever your own situation...no real plans for me yet. maybe it would be a good idea for us all to know what everyones situation is so we know what's up?
what do you guys think? hope you all had a great thanksgiving!

You all may have noticed on the Board that VINow users get together every so often. We have a gathering planned for Dec 19th, and I'm sure you all can lobby for one in Jan/Feb after you are all down to share experiences face-to -face, and make further contacts. The gatherings are low key and fun, with an eclectic group of folks.

Wow...

Lots of good comments on this board. Am interviewing for a job down there and was doing some research to convince the wife that it would be a good thing to do. All she has heard was high cost of living and crime. Whatever you can offer to ease her mind is helpful
