Need a Rodent Repellent

Which is worse, the mosquitos or mice? Hmm...I'm beginning to miss the mosquitos.

Is there a good rodent repellent on island? Poison just lures them closer to the house, and traps can only kill those that get in them. There's a repellent used in the states that seems to work well and I wondered if anyone knows of one here.

Thanks,
Bou'ya

I have always had success with sticky traps. You just lay it down in the corners. They seem to like to travel beside the walls, so just about anywhere will get them. I haven't had to buy them on island so I don't know where you could get them. It worries me though, because I wouldn't want you to catch a gecko. If you do, just put some oil on him with a q-tip to unstick him. AND cats are not rodents!!! 🙂

i dont know about you guys down there, but my cats here tend to catch mice, moles, and chipmunks OUTSIDE the house, and then bring them inside where they revive and run around all chewed up. 🙁 We even have a fishing net in our basement to catch the birds and bats they bring in!

Also, we have this machine at our cabin that makes a noise mice dont like (but we can't hear, its supersonic) we havent had a mouse there in quite a while, I think you can get them at the Home Depot. 🙂

Obviously, we have SUPER mice, because they get loose from the sticky traps after hopping all over the place in them (which just deters them for a while), and we have the "noise machine" in our living room and kitchen. When we lay out A LOT of poison, they eat it all, but new mice just replace the dead ones. I think repellent would at least keep them away from the house. I'll keep searching the Net.

Yes, I had a large one that did get loose from the small sticky pad which I bought at Ace...also at Food Center and K-mart. Then I got the bigger one.....and now......well he's history.

I also got some little green pellets which they come and eat and go away. Seems much better than picking up a kicking little guy and heaving him into the trash.

Suggest you get the rat-size glue trays at Home Depot. Those babies work, and I guarantee, no mouse is going to get away. If it does, I wouldn't want to sleep in the house with that monster...it might eat you some night!

The little green pellets seem to work pretty good. We put them out, away from the house last night, but we also closed all the windows (they ate through 3 screens the night before). It's a little hot in here, but maybe that's just what we'll have to do until they find somewhere else to go. If I find the big sticky traps, I'll pick up a couple. Thanks.

All kidding aside, I found a "steel cat" at Ace Hardware and used it. It is a humane trap so you still have release the little buggers but it will entice most of them.

Yes I saw those trap me inside type and thought them much more humane.

With respect to screens - my landlady had a kitchen window screen of mine replaced and did so with a stronger mesh that was said by the guy doing them, to prevent rodents from nibbling through - for what that's worth.

I truly think once they get used to eating/dying somewhere outside your place you can once again let the trade winds in.

I sort of had a feeling that the problem was seasonal or perhaps more specifically - related to a small family that made my house their home. They have all gone now. A new guy started to stop by, but the green pellets seem to have sent him off into the night!
