Okay....I finally got up enough nerve to ask this question that has been bugging me for the last eight months. On the day my husband and I arrived on STX after a long exhausting journey to get there, we got to our rented house in Judith's Fancy and I needed to eat something. Now....keep in mind it is pretty late by this time, just got the rental car and got to the house. Since I didn't feel good and really needed some food in my body (it is a medical thing and when I have to eat, I absolutely have to eat) I sent the hubby out to "find" me something so I could stay there and lay down. He is usually pretty good about knowing what I can eat and what I can't eat so I trusted that he could pull off this mission. And he did, but.....

He decided the best thing to do was to stop at the first place he saw, a place called Chocolat's. Well, he went up to the place and realized he could get a drink (or two) while he waited for some food. He apparently had some difficulty communicating (no surprise to me) and so someone else helped him order some food. He said they were "wings". He was gone a really really long time and when he came back he had these two huge boxes of "wings". So here is my question......
These things were the BIGGEST things I have ever seen...they could not have been chicken, they were bigger than any turkey wings I have ever seen, and I can't imagine what they could have been. I am a biologist.....I started dissecting....they were definitely some kind of bird but what kind I don't know. Don't get me wrong....they were really good but I don't know what they were!

Does anyone know what type of bird those "wings" could have possibly come from? Anyone? Please?
The speculation is worse than knowing the truth, and trust me I have been speculating ever since December.
Please ease my suffering if you can,
Lori 🙂

LOL! I have no idea but look forward to the speculation. Perhaps you or your husband can go back to Chocolat's and ask.

(my bet is turkey)

I have seen some turkey drumsticks and wings at Pricesmart here in STT that would have to come from at least a 50 lb. or greater turkey. Never seen anything like that in my life. The drumstick is abut 15 inches long and the circumference is as big as my arm! No idea who grows them that big and how come suddenly they are able to be bought. Maybe they come from 3 Mile Island or someplace similar?

i am in agreement with jules.
however, i am not there at this time.
but...
when i was there
(long ago and very far away....)
the chickens and turkeys were bigger than stateside.
my opinion on their size is that it is because they are allowed to frolic around freely and are not fast fed and then knocked out...only to be dipped and fried for the masses.
they grow taller and wider...check it...island poultry versus poultry in the states...
stateside chickens are shorter, stockier and more plump....that chemical infused grain and vitamin water will do it every time.
island poultry are taller, bigger boned and more lean.
therefore sometimes a chicken wing can look like a turkey wing and a turkey wing can resemble a dinosaur vibe.

The chicken used in restaurants are from the states or PR; few people eat the common chickens. They are small and scrawny.

LOL, I was hoping for the turkey. I swear I have never seen anything that size before. These things were so big that by just putting ONE in one of those big white styrofoam square take out boxes it wouldn't let the lid close. Maybe the reason it bothers me so much is because I have this bird phobia (don't laugh.....I really do....birds freak me out) and when I see "wings" that size it makes me wonder where are these mutant fowl that these things came from, I wouldn't want to meet one in a dark alley....or anywhere for that matter. I wonder if they eat centipedes, I could have a poultry patrol (except I would never leave the house).

Ronnie, I was wondering about the three mile island theory myself.

LOL, I kept looking all the time on the island to see if I could spot something big enough but no luck although a couple days later my hubby and I were at Sandy Point and a pelican landed about 5 feet away from me when I was in the ocean and he was looking at me awfully strange.
I got out of the ocean quickly. Birds really do freak me out. LOL

Well, we have a bunch of peacocks up here in the rain forest... perhaps they were peacock wings. 🙂
