Mr Mapp's peculiar meddling
What the heck is the Governor up to now?
In an unprecedented action, he’s trying to force the Magens Bay Authority board of directors to appoint his former and short-lived Attorney General, Terri Griffiths, to that body. Serving on that Board is voluntary and it’s basically an unpaid position. For decades the MBA has done a fantastic job overseeing and maintaining Magens Bay and now Smith Bay (Lindqvist). What on earth could be the motive behind this action in overriding the Board’s wishes and forcing them to accept his appointee?
Hopefully the Senate Rules Committee will seek and find the motive and deny the appointment. The MBA is the only semi-autonomous government agency that doesn’t rely on government handouts to get its work done. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
I suspect because the Authority brings in $. Cash $. Every day.
Isn't there a proposal to add another concession at Magens? That may also have something to do with it.

SOOO MUUUCCHH CASSSHHH!
If those positions aren't paid then who the heck is getting all that money!? Dumb question I guess. $4 pp to enter - lets guess 500 people on multi ship day... sound right? 2k a day x 4 days a week approx: $8k a week x 52 = $416,000. I am NOT good at math so I could be way off. I am averaging 4 days a week from on and off season.

This should answer your question which isn't dumb but seems to assume that there's no transparency:
MBA is one of the most functional boards and does an excellent job, in my opinion. Mapp should leave well enough alone. He just can't wait to get his sticky fingers into each and every pie.

That's what's confusing. If you read the fiscal report it's abundantly clear that there's no huge excess sitting around waiting for sticky fingers. The MBA is the ONLY semi autonomous government agency which has never either asked for or received general funding, Unlike most other bloated government agencies they do with what they have - and do a fantastic job.
ms411, if you read the report, your question about the concession at Magens is addressed there.
What "report"?
What "report"?

By sticky fingers I was also alluding to his love of control on all these boards as well as the more obvious definition.
I don't think the legislative report answers the question of if there is a plan to add another concession at Magens. I would also like to know how much these exclusive concession contracts pay for the privilege and when they go up for bid.

The proposal for the concession and a visitor's center is right there in the report and not hard to find. As is information on what the concessions pay and when their leases are up. All in simple format. There's nothing to think about, just read the report.
I skimmed it. May take time to fully read it now that I know more about what's in it.
