really, the best advise right now is to do a ton of reading right here and do research. after that, come back and ask specific questions

Hey we are not sure what island yet or know which one would be the best to live on.. any preference?

And yes, we have money saved up for the move so that we will be good for a couple of months with no job!

It depends on what you like. As everyone will say here visit first. St Tomas is much busier and most likely has a better job market. St Croix is a slower pace and jobs can be scarce but I see them in the restaurant and hotel industry regularly. Your biggest challenge will probably be a Job if you have a specific field in mind you may be disappointed which is why savings is important. I moved here 15 months ago and think it's the best thing ever the transition for us was almost none existing. There is a whole lot of unexplainable things that go on here so you need to expect it and not let it bother you when you get delay after delay for no apparent good reason. Like everywhere it's what you make of it. Hope you make it down here.

Have you been to either Island before?

They're all nice islands but different.
Some basics:
STX is largest, has more flat land areas than STT or STJ which have more mountainous terrain.
STX doesn't have a large protected harbor like St. Thomas so gets less cruise ships.
Because we get more ships there are more jobs that cater to that industry and it's easier to find jobs in STT than STX.
Rents and homes and condos properties cost less on STX than STT and STJ.
STJ is more expensive than STT to live is the smallest, except for Water Island on south side of STT.
STJ is mostly National Park and has very expensive homes.
Prices for gas, groceries, etc., tend to be higher.
Many people on STJ will bring their vehicles over on barge to shop for items they either can't get or are too costly.
All have gorgeous beaches.
STX is furthest out and only has Buck Island offshore.
Being on STT or STJ offers a wide range of offshore cays and islands as well as access to the BVI, British Virgin Islands and all their islands.

More direct flights to STT than STX, I believe.
If you're living on STJ, you fly in and out of STT and are subject to the ferry schedules for getting back and forth.
