Moving
*I am thinking about chartering a boat on some island in your area. I have lived Here in Florida for so long I feel it is time for a change. I am not to shur on how to advertise as such. What do you suggest? Is there enough room for one more boat?
Peter: If you mean that you want to charter your boat, you might want to contact the VI Charter Yacht League at 340-774-3944. They would be able to give you information on licensing, advertising etc. Good luck!
Thanks,East! I am booking a flight down there on the 6th of jan. l am Looking for a house to Buy for a realistate investment. I will try the #er you gave me. Just getting started. Is Htere any boats down there 4 sale?
Thanks once again. Mary Xmass.
Pete.
Peter: I am not clear on your concept...You want to buy a boat and start a term charter business? There are plenty of boats for sale, but there is also a great deal of research to be done about the business end. Talk with the Charter Yacht League and go to Red Hook and talk to some of the people who charter. Do you have your captain's license? Do you have the kind of sterling personality to adapt to a new set of strangers in your home every week? Do you cook or know of a cook? Are you familiar with the anchorages of the Virgin Islands? Lots of ground work for you!!
With all due respect, you are talking about buying both a house and a boat and either buying or starting a business, but you clearly haven't spent the time to invetigate the real estate market, the boat market, the business climate, the competition, or even which island you want to be on (from the first line of your first post).
You should expect to get taken, and move back home with a lot less of your money. This is not an indictment of the USVI, it is a matter that you appear to have no idea what you are doing, and you will likely make every possible mistake along the way.
Nice letter. Cunstructive criticism! IT will take two years before I have all my nuts and botlts together. as iI had posted "getting started". Im 38 yrs old with 3 Companies. and I Would like one on a boat. doesn't mean I have to run it. Just get it started. ya! a boat.
they have u.s. auctions that sell boats in florida. Picked up from drug dealers, Just thought you might know of a web site in your area that sells boats. And how the hell do you lose on a realestate home. I am a proud owner of 9 homes here in FL. Buying forclosers is very profitable. So a nice vacation there would be nice when I retire. Vacation tax right off. Not bad! I don't work for money. Money works for me.
Tahnks again Pete
Hello Peter,
I suggest calling the Charter League as East Ender suggested they will be able to fill in all the details of licensing, market, where/hows on boats... very good resource to get that information. For networking again East Ender gave a great suggestion of Red Hook where many of the boaties are. You might also check out the yatch club.
Real Estate investments. Definately visit a couple agents and see which one you click with. Not sure what type of deal you are looking for commerical building to condo??? You can visit the MLS and see whats out there from home so you have a perspective before going down on the availabilities. Try http://www.usvicentury21.com/ there is a link to the MLS right at the top.
Foreclosures from what I understand are not many on St. Thomas and St. Croix, non-existant on Water Island and St. John.
As for your question about one more boat business... sure if you research and find the right niche and create something unique - absolutely possiable.
All the best in your research and your pre-move visit.
