moving with dogs
HI,
I'm in St Croix and I'm planning on moving back to the states. I'm having trouble transporting my dogs. Prefer not shipping them by cargo. Any suggestions.
Well, depending on how large they are, unless you charter ($$$) you may not be able to avoid having them in cargo.
Aren't the major airlines able to transport them (just as they would if you were coming to the VI)?
For in cabin air transport it is one dog per person and the dog inside the carrier must be able to turn around. The dog in the carrier must also be able to fit under the seat.
Otherwise they go cargo.
I am going through the same thing. I have two dogs. I flew them down on American. They have a temp. restriction. If anywhere on your travel stops is 85 or over they will not fly the dogs. I am looking for an early flight in the morning or else I gamble on some cooler weather. I am looking to leave in June. They both flew down in Sept of 07 when it was opressively hot. A lady that I work with says as long as you can get them off STX you would get them home. Its about $100/dog. Go to your airlines website and see there parameters for flying with pets.
I took the first flight STX-SJU (I think it was 7:30 am) then SJU-MIA with my dogs. I was still scared it would get too hot, but they judge the temperature at the time you leave, and not what it might be when you arrive. I think if the pet is small enough to travel in the cabin the temperature embago is not relevant.
Can any one provide a list of those pricey charter planes that will help transport our beloved pets?
We are flying our dog (and family, of course) from Fort Lauderdale to San Juan on a 6am flight on June 14. From there, we are chartering a private plane through Air American, Inc. from San Juan to St Crox The prices are much more reasonable than we expected and they have been fantastic with responding to our e-mails. You may want to check them out.
Good luck!
