Moving to VI
Hi there,
I’m a 51 yo male, single and a USMC Vet.
I’m planning on moving to VI by September of 2018, I will have a 100% disability rating before arriving so should take care of my initial accommodations. I have a lot of research to do but would love any input from anyone who’s friendly enough to do so.
I live in Saratoga NY now and can not take another winter!
I’m really good with All types of Carpentry and Painting as I’ve done this my whole life. Have to Navigate this new venture so please leave any comments to me if you have time
Thanks
Billy
Have you decided on an island yet. Health care is a consideration. Both hospitals were damaged pretty good during th e 2 hurricanes we had.
St. Croix has a veterans hospital as long as there is a hospital there. I would even like to help people who need it fixed in their homes etc.
Lots of friendly folks on this forum that can help with more specific questions. Many subjects have been covered in detail in previous discussions you can read through for starters. Well at least you have a health insurance plan, that ticks off one box. We always recommend a pre-move visit but if you are confident in finding temporary housing on arrival and are flexible with plans then perhaps you could get by without PMV. Just never sign any lease or pay any deposits site unseen. What kind of housing will you be looking for, condo, apartment, single family? Shipping lots of household items, a few, a car, or just arriving with a carry on? Looking for full time job, part time, or just whatever comes along?
Billy, St Croix has a VA Outpatient clinic; the nearest VA hospital is in San Juan, PR. The clinic here is pretty good, and if you need to go over to the hospital the VA covers your flight and runs a bus between airport and hospital.
How to begin looking for a rental apartment on the internet?
We are interested in moving to USAVI. Where can I get up to date apartment information since the storms?
For starters, check out Craig’s List and Google “Apartment Rentals NAME OF ISLAND” to find what might be available BUT use the internet only for basic research such as to determine price ranges for rentals. NEVER EVER rent an apartment or house sight unseen in the Caribbean.

It's VIUSA---sorry had to : )
Thank you for all responses,
Out patient clinic is all I need as far as VA goes
I just had someone ask if I would be interested in going to palm beach to do a Reservation on Home.
Thinking I should visit Saint Croix and try to establish a few contacts.
Would Like to Find if anyone was interested in housing me as I work on there property.
I very experienced in all phases of home renovations, landscaping, elec, plumbing, Painting etc. I have a ton of great references and I’m committed to doing my best at whatever I do.
I believe the VA is moving toward some sort of voucher system. It used to be that people had to go to PR for most tests and treatments, but are now being seen locally. 😉
