I currently reside on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Am looking to move to VI. It is really expensive here. Everything from cigs to groceries to rent. Most studios are $700 and up. I am trying to compare the two places. Can anyone give any input. For employment, I am in the financial industry, specialize in stock market. Any jobs available?

Respectfully,
Shannon

I am looking for a source of reasonable rents in Cruz Bay available but am not having much luck finding it. Can anyone help? I ammoving to the area in mid-Sept. Looks like job opportunities in marine related areas are on a walk-in basis. Any suggestions of good versus bad operations?

Thanks,
Tim

St. John is going to be more expensive than Hawaii.
A typical studio will run 800 a month, IF YOU CAN FIND IT.
Housing is ultra limited because St. John is a small island and two thirds of that is National Park. St. Thomas is much more affordable. The goods are just as expensive since it is 1500 miles to Miami. Dairy and canned goods are almost double. A pint of Ben and Jerrys sells for over seven dollars at Starfish Market!!!! Rum is cheaper than milk. So I see more similarities to Hawaii with STJ than dissimilarities. Maybe St. Thomas is an option. One big thing to realize thing to realize is that this is not the STATES and some services are not available or are delayed. The customer service is very different. I have heard of a few people moving from here to Hawaii. They were surfer types though.

Hello Shannon,

Financial industry... not likely you will find stock market jobs.... the only place I can see you finding work along the lines of what you currently do is at a bank, as an officer, head of a department... something along those lines.

I happen to know someone who lived in Oahu several years ago and lives in St. Thomas now... he will drop in and post with his opinion.

All the best.

Shannon, I saw a position in the Classified for a Financila Operations Officer. Starting salary $35,500. Requesting resume, Letter of Application and Transcript. Not sure what your salary requirements are but salaries here are lower that the states.
