Moving to the islands
Hello Everyone again!
So my post was removed today so I am adding a new one! I am moving to St. Croix this coming December and am looking for any advice anyone has to give. I have been to the island multiple times and understand many things that most new comers do not, but am still looking for any advice possible. How easy is it to buy a car when arriving on island? My parents own a house on the east end and I will be parking my car there when not on the island so I think buying one is my cheapest bet. I check craigslist regularly and it seems easy enough if you have the cash. Also has anyone traveled with a pet? I have a yellow lab that is a year old and around 70 lbs. I plan on living on the east end of the island and renting over there for five months, does anyone have any suggestions as to where to rent? I am planning on the grapetree bay area, possibly apts at grapetree bay resort. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! See ya on the island!!

tommy: This whole board is dedicated to the questions you are asking. Spend a little time reading through the information above under "Island Life", "Employment" etc. Read a bit through the archives. And asking for people to send you money for your moving expenses was pretty cheeky!
Thanks for the post East Ender! I apologize if i was a little cheeky for you, but hey, every dollar in this move is going to count!!
That's funny...asking for money to help you move is a big joke...THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE UNEMPLOYED ON ST. CROIX...lol
Who's asking for money? Did I nod off and miss something?
Linda: It was a thread that was removed. tommy b thought we all should contribute to a moving fund. LOL
There are thousands of people unemployed everywhere, not just st. croix. In fact the unemployment rate just ticked up yesterday to 9.1% for the U.S. I wasn't trying to anger anyone. It was a simple suggestion, and if you guys can still remember what it is like to be 24 years old, I bet you were worried about money too. I have met a lot of wonderful, generous, easy going, laid back people in stx and also some weirdos that think they own the island. Which category do you think you guys fit into? My vote is that you guys need a couple pain killers, or maybe a green flash to settle down.
Anyway I have a blog at www.movingtotheislands.blogspot.com See ya around!
Yeah tommy b, we're all a bunch of a-holes. You don't really want to move here. Be a nice troll and go away!
No your not a-holes stxbob! I love you guys, sorry if I made you mad because that is not my intention! Just trying to learn a little more about the island that is all.
We have enough beggers on stx, they like to ask for "donations" as well. We ship them off to stt and then stt ships them back to us. No one wants them.
Well, gosh, guys... while we're at it, I could use a billion dollars. I'll be laying on the beach with my painkiller, just drop it off west. 🙂
tommy, tommy, tommy: Let us go back to square one. This is a board about moving to the Virgin Islands. Sometimes this dysfunctional web family disagrees with details, like if St Thomas, St John and Water Island are one "group" or not, but for the most part, we are pretty good at giving advice. Most, but not all, of us moved here from elsewhere. We have had the experience of moving to a new place without knowing if we had enough money. That is why most of us recommend that you save up your hard-earned sheckels up there in Big America before making the move.
I think it is nice that you are advertising your blog, but the reason this board exists is for people to share their experiences.8-)
Beth, I left a million dollars in a pile in front of your house the first part of May. you didn't get it?????:S
I will have to do it again, just wait by the road.:@)
Ha ha ha... Terry, was that before or after I got that sinkhole in my yard??? 🙂
didn't see a sink hole. maybe that is where it went!
