I am moving to STX in November. My dog and husband will follow. (May not be at the same time). Been looking into getting my dog to the Island. AA Cargo will not ship to STX. Waiting to hear about STT or San Juan. Was thingking about STT and then take the ferry until I read about the ferry situation on STX. Any suggestions about how to get her to STX from San Juan. She and the carrier will be about 100 pound. What airlines will take her or will I have to charter? Thanks

Hi Mikki,
I have 3 rotties, all over 100lbs, that I am shipping to STX in November. Continental is the only airline that I can find that will ship large animals. Call Continental at 800-575-3335 and speak with Patrick if you can. He is very good. Continental will ship as far as San Juan then you have to find a way to get them to the island. We are using a very nice lady named Lauren. Her number is 340-626-1703. She can arrange a charter for you to get your dog to the island. You can fly over with the pilot or they will pick the dog up for you and arrange for an overnight stay in San Juan if need be. When you call Continental try to make sure you know what size crate you are using. We have to use the 700 series vari kennel for ours which weighs 43 pounds. I hope this helps. Do not call cargo...call reservations for booking your pet when you travel. Cargo stopped going to STX several years ago when American Airlines outsourced their employees and replaced them with Executive Eagle!

chockman - she did for a few months but the sale didn't reach completion. The bar is still available for sale and the price was reduced today by 1/3. If you want details and photos I can send you some if you contact me directly at stcroixhomes@hotmail.com

We checked our dog as extra baggage to get here. She weighs about 53 lbs. The cost was almost as much as a ticket for a person though. We used American Airlines. If you go to AA.com, you can search for the links on pets.

Some people fly the dogs on commercial carriers to STT and then ferry them to STX.
