Moving to STX from DC with large dog
I am back with update number 2. I just received the largest allowable crate for United Airlines and it is not big enough for my dog so now I am back to square 1 (and out of pocket for the nonrefundable tickets). Even though my dog likes the kennel, can turn around, and lie down, there is not enough room per airline policy because there isn't at least 3 extra inches. Big dog owners beware!
Anyone not completely fed up with this whole discussion, please let me know if you have new, helpful suggestions.
Why isn't it big enough?
Your dog will be laying down except when they remove from kennel to inspect both dog and kennel at TSA.
Fly AA. If you can.
Only BOEING AIRCRAFT CONNECTIONS.
I'd think at think point it would Be more temp on tarmac on departure date.
Wishing you and pup well.
They require 3 inches over the head when standing with the head upright.
kberry, im so sorry of the struggles you are having. i wish i had any advice

Thank you. I appreciate that.
I moved a tall boy here in '12. He was a Standard Poodle and his head (hair on top) hit the top of the crate, the largest pet crate allowed by airlines. We had no problems at the airport with getting him on the air craft. He had no problems turning around and really that's what they look for before allowing through. We had the earliest flight out of Miami to here in middle of November so he wouldn't have to change planes. Even in November with heat restrictions (all airlines have it) it was iffy that we made it through. Heat restrictions will be a problem and you won't be able to fly him in the Summer through early Fall months.
I am moving with three pets and three kids in three weeks. We decided to ship the pets cargo with cargo carrier. No what ifs like the airline. There is no housing right now going to have to cram in friends apartment below house.

Who are you using?
I usually avid reading posts with the subject matter of moving wth pets or kids because there are so many of them I always thought why doesn't the writer just read the previous posts.
However I decided to read this post and I must say the back and forth has been quite entertaining, it's better than tv comedy show.
4k to ship a dog? I am in the wrong business.

The prior discussions were years ago, rules have changed, and people come and go which is why I asked for help.
Entertaining. Yes that is a way to look at it.
I thought we were suppose to be have transporters Star Trek style by now.
Sitting at the STX airport today I noticed someone coming off the arriving AA flight with I'd guess was at least a 75lb dog standing at least 2FT high on a standard leash strolling to baggage claim. Not wearing a service uniform. Inside the gate was someone wandering around with a dachshund on a leash. The four cats in the two under seat carryons didn't make make a sound once they got through security.

Sounds like a scene from a children’s book or a Pixar movie.
kdberry, I'm trying to find a way for you to bring your dog here that you can afford. I remember what we went through 13 years ago to bring our 3 100lb+ rotties here. Back then US Air flew them cargo for us. We had to drive them from Virginia to North Carolina then they flew cargo to Houston and overnighted at an airport kennel then cargo again to Puerto Rico. We hired Mike Foster, a pilot here on STX to fly us over to pick them up. I think it was about $900 on US Air and Mike was around 2K. I think you can take them on a cargo ferry from PR now. Not sure. I'll keep looking around.

Pet travel transport I think it would be under $1000 for your dog based on what I am paying. But you would need to ask them.
