Moving to STJ
My husband and I are moving to STJ in June. Flights are booked and we have a place to stay for the first week and half while on the island. Our hope is to find a place to rent long term (6-12mo lease) within that time frame- if not, we will just have to extend our stay either by hotel/inn etc. until we find a place. What's the best way to find housing once on the island? I've been keeping an eye on craigslist. Small efficiency is what we have in mind. Nothing fancy!
You can check and see if my sister and brother in law have any available long term rentals available. The rentals are right up the hill from Gallows Bay, a short walk to town/Cruz Bay. They also have short term vacation rentals in same area. They may be willing to do an off season 3-6 month rental.
Both long term and vacation rental rates are very reasonable.
Call Bob or Marlene at 340-776-6704.
The long term rentals are not listed on the website below but it'll give you an idea of location.

Awesome, thanks so much! I will definitely check them out!!
As soon as you can after arriving start going into Connections in Cruz bay and networking - the bulletin board there changes daily with rentals and info.
Great! That's good to know- I didn't know they had something like that. Perfect 🙂
You can also check with a realtor once on island.
I'd recommend BJ Harris. STJ Properties.

Connections in Cruz Bay has tons of postings for all sorts of things. I rarely see much on Craigslist, way more at Connections. It is a block straight off from the ferry dock on your left. Probably the best places don't even make it to a posting. Bartenders.... talk to the bartenders. They seem to know a lot 🙂 They also know a lot of people and can connect you to other people who know of places. What is your budget? I'll keep my ears peeled.
Hoping to keep it around 1,000 a month. I know we won't have a ton of options since STJ seems to be pricier than the other islands, but I have noticed some listings on Craigslist for efficiency/1bedroom apts under 1k. Just not sure whether they're legit or not 😉 I will definitely go to connections once we get in!! Thanks!

Mostly not. You may be able to find something decent for that price due to the time of year you are moving (less demand as seasonal workers are often gone or leaving soon). Definitely bring first, last, and security. Word of mouth and Connections will be your best bets for finding a place. Good luck with the transition!
The other place to check are the local Facebook groups, which have replaced Craigslist for legit trading these days. There is a St John Accommodations group for this purpose, as well as a few other more general local FB groups that allow sale posts.
