Moving to St Thomas!!!
Hi everyone, my husband and I are moving to St Thomas in Oct and we are so excited just wish we were moving today! I have spent allot of time of this message board reading what everyone has to say & it has been so helpful! I am a clean traveling nurse (haha I read all those posts about how messy traveling nurses are-I can see that with some of the girls I know but I swear we are not all slobs!!). My husband does some internet work. Anyway I was just hoping to find some insight on what to pack. I saw that some people go to the mainland to buy things like soap, shampoo, ect... so maybe we should stock up before we come. I have also noticed that the bugs are crazy so I thought we should pack lots of bug spray. Also I suppose that sunscreen is cheaper here then there so maybe we should stock up on that? Mostly I am just excited to come and live island life. I just want to lay back and relax. I want to get organized then just relax and not worry about anything! So any input anyone has would be much appreciated! Thanks!!! :@)
I don't think you can pack aerosol cans, can you??? Definitely get all the sun products up there. They'll be cheaper. I think people just pick up toiletries while they're in the States & don't make special trips to do that. Pick up summer clothes/bathing suits, etc. now while they're on sale. Your selection will be much better there (and don't forget sandals.) How long are you coming down for? Good luck!
We are gonna be there for 6 months! Its like a dream come true for the both of us-who knows we might not ever leave!!:P
Entirely possible!
If clothes are your thing, do shop those end of summer sales. I'm going to Oregon next week, and I'm already counting how much money I'm going to save buying going, going, gone sale items that are good here year 'round!
You may have noticed truebluefan started a very similar thread, so between the two of you, you should get lots of answers.
i'm guessing it never gets cold enough for sweatshirts, etc. ha ha
even though i tend to be cold natured, i don't think i will be bringing many pairs of pants, long sleeve shirts or jackets - thank goodness!!! i'll give those to someone who can really use them.
i'm also planning on hitting the end of summer sales juanita.
i'm sure bahama mamma agrees - we appreciate your help and advice!
Throw in a couple of pairs of jeans, some long sleeve shirts and at least one sweatshirt. We do get a few "chilly" nights, and since we like to be outside a lot, or we go to air conditioned restaurants, sleeves come in handy sometimes. We had several weeks of weather last winter where I was running around the house looking for sweaters for guests on our deck. A beach towel makes a great shawl!
We're actually thinking of getting one of those chimenias. I'm sure that's spelled wrong, but it's like a free-standing fireplace for outside.
juanita,
i'm going to bring some of all those things. i'm petite and i'm guessing if i don't bring it i'm probably not going to find it. it's hard enough to find things here sometimes.
i have a chiminea i use here on cool nights and it is great. i also wondered while packing outdoor things if i should bring it. now that you mention it i think i will. they are good just to knock the chill off. when you get yours make sure you season it and i wouldn't leave it unprotected.
