I am thinking about relocating to St. Thomas from Atlanta. I don't know anything about St. Thomas with the exception it is a US Virgin Island. What are your thoughts about a single female relocating for work? Any advice would be appreciated; I want to know the good and the bad. I have heard that the crime rate is high, but where is it not? Please advise.

Have you gone through all the information available top of this page? If you start on the left at "Home" and go all the way through to the last on the right, "Message Board" you'll find a ton of general information which will give you all the basics and then can continue on from there. Good luck!

Think about using the search option at the top, also. Make sure to change the dates as it defaults to the last 30 days. You will more than likely find a thread that either answers your question or you can hijack one to see if the info is still pertinent. If you need to start a new thread, please help us help you by giving us a little bit of information about yourself, too.

Good luck to you!!

You guys, one of the board rules, if you look them up, is not to refer new folks to the search engine. Answer some questions and then you can refer them. Just saying.
Matsy, welcome to the board. Ask away any questions, you will like answered, lots answered already, but you never know!

Here's an excerpt. Maybe worded better than me.
"Welcome new members. In response to a question, provide an answer; do not respond solely with instructions to use the search feature. Do not correct other participants' spelling or grammar. Keep sarcastic comments to a minimum. No critical comments about other board members. "

Old topic. I know...as I use to live in Atlanta for a short time I must ask..

If you know nothing about the island, why would you want to move here?

ronnie, i find it more helpful to read first and then ask questions if you dont find all the answers you are looking for.

Ronnie, I think the "rule" wording whichever way one puts it is a little ambiguous. Many people who come to this forum don't realize that there is a huge amount of basic information contained in the scroll-down bars top of the page. When it appears obvious that someone just doesn't realize this I think it's very helpful to point it out with a secondary note to then use the search forum for related posts and, finally, to use the forum to get more specifics that one just can't find. Again, I do understand the intent of the rule but think it's just worded ambiguously. I'm with VIsnorkeler and speee1dy on this one! 😀

Since you asked, here's my 2 cents.
Yes, crime is high.
Be mindful where you live. Know your neighbors. Make sure you can lock-up securly.
Don't walk to you car alone at night.
If you like to party at the bars, you need to be extra careful.
Always wear sun screan and keep an extra case of water on hand.
If your employer is willing to cover your moving cost to (and from once your assignment is complete), and they will pay enough so you can live in decent place, and you like the tropics (beaches/lovely water), and the move will advance your career and you have an "exit plan" then go for it!!

Maybe you can at least answer the question, welcome them to the board and then suggest what you want. Kind of like the same thing we do areound here, you know Good morning, good afternoon...... Get aquainted, then talk. That's what I think they mean.

there was just a murder at Club54 in downtown christiansted. A security office who was also a Federal Marshall? killed by someone who had wanted to get into the club and was not allowed.
two police officers were shot the same night and a young man was killed on stj.
color has nothing to do with the crime down here.
if you are moving down for only 6 months, buy a cheap island car and sell when you go back
