Moving to St Thomas
My husband and children are wanting to move to the island, we are looking into schools, but so far I have heard that most children from the mainland go to private, was wondering if anyone knew why? also, what are the biggest police problems on the island, are drugs still on the rise?
Thank You
Paige
We too are moving to St. Thomas this summer. I have looked to public, private (parochial and independent) and home schooling.
At this point we are considering only private schools. (I'm not really the personality type to homeschool) The public schools have well publicized accrediation issues, as well as infrastructure and teacher shortage concerns. (Go to www.onepaper.com/stthomasvi - use the search engine at the bottom of the page and search for "accreditation" to see all the articles recently published.)
The 3 schools I have spoken with at length are St. Peter and Paul Catholic School, All Saints (Episcopal) School and The Antilles School. I have also spoken with the Montessori school, but I'm not in agreement with their philosophy on cluster children in age groups as opposed to having actual K, first, second grade classes.
Hope this is helpful!
