Hello Daniel,

UVI is a good school, their business dept is ok. Small school, not a party school, friendly students, beach in walking distance, small classrooms teacher-student ratios, some clubs/groups but not a whole lot. Any specific questions about UVI go ahead and ask, I am an alumni.

There are quite a few apartments on St. Thomas so if you don't want to live in dorms you can find a small apartment or studio - look at paying anywhere between $500-800. If you get an apartment far from UVI (east end, northside) then you will need a car.

Hello !!

I am coming to St. Thomas in February for three months to work at the hospital. I have visited St. Thomas for day trips in the past from Cruise ships. What do I need to expect by actually living there for three months ?? Are there any areas that I would not want to live in ?? Is a woman alone, safe there ??
Thank you

Susan: The traveling companies usually put travelers up in condos which are in nice areas- Sapphire, Mahogany Run, Point Pleasant, Elysian. Cowpet, etc. It seems that the travelers develop little cliques and support one another. Living here is different from where you live, food is expensive, but it is a beautiful place to spend some time. Plan to do something you wouldn't be able to do elsewhere- take up scuba diving, windsurfing, etc. Always keep your swim suit and towel in the car in case you want to stop off at a beach. Realize you aren't in Kansas anymore- everything will be different. Read through some of the old threads here about people moving. Read "Don't Stop the Carnival."
