moving to St Thomas-- help!

Hello,
My fiance and I are moving to St Thomas this summer with our german shepherd mix dog (medium sized dog, but still pretty big). Do you think that we will be able to find a rental that will let us have the dog or will it be pretty tough? Also, can you buy cheap cars there to get around? We've been living in NYC for the last five years so the whole "needing a car" thing is a little foreign-- any ideas about insurance rates and all that too? Is there any way we could get by with just a motocycle or does it seem like a car is absolutely necessary? thanks in advance for any help
Molly

1. The pooch--it is possible to find a dog-friendly rental. It will take diligence, willingness to pay top rent and probably an additional security deposit. Coming from NYC, however, you will definitely NOT suffer sticker shock. Also, good thing you are coming in summer...lots of apartments to choose from.
2. The motorcycle...is totally not feasible! The roads are hilly, holey, and just plain scary. You'll see when you get here. A car is pretty much a necessity unless you intend to live directly in town. Read Steve N.'s recent posts regarding insurance costs.

Feel free to ask more questions and welcome to the island!

Onika,
THanks so much for your post. Very helpful to know that we'll definitely need a car. Do you know if it's common to lease cars there? Just wondering.
Thanks!
