moving to st. thomas from stateside
and I'm looking for other cool guys or girls to hang out with. I am 31, , relocating from North Carolina and while I will have friends at work, I am looking for friends outside of work. Any advice, etc. would be appreciated.
Come on down.......lots of cool folks waiting to meet you. What are your interests? What kind of work? Planning to stay here long?
I am moving from NC. I will be working as a reporter for the VI Daily News, covering crime and courts. I was a reporter for 10 years here in NC before coming back to school, and I graduated from UNC Asheville three weeks ago. Any other alum out there? I visited St. Thomas a couple of weeks ago, and while it was basically a week-long interview, I did get to have some fun. Some other reporters and I went to Magan's Beach, and then to a "bar" called Brooks, which was fun - and, of course, different than anything up this way. Up here, they make a rum and Coke with a splash of rum. Down there, it seems, it's a splash of Coke! I'm a single guy who has a big Italian family up here, but I don't think I'll miss them, as they are already planning to visit, as long, as my sisters say, my apartment is "clean." Any leads, tips, please let me know. Thanks!

Also, I am looking for an apartment, on St. Thomas, in a clean, quiet area away from downtown. I have a cat, and I can pay up to $800. Please email billycresenzo@yahoo.com if you have any leads. Thanks
Hi Bill C,
Your post requested friends outside of work, so I guess I'm out of the running because I, too, am moving to St. Thomas to work at the VI Daily News. Arrive June 13 with boyfriend and cat. Start on the 20th as the new copy editor/page designer.
So apart from our age group (me-27, Michael-30), we will have in common the experience of bringing a ferocious feline (well mine is, anyway) on an airplane with no litter box in sight for hours.
So, maybe you'll make an exception! If not for me, there's Michael, a friendly and amusing fellow who shares your fondness for rum and cokes.

P.S. I'd be interested in hearing your impressions about our new workplace as I've only interviewed on the phone. niki@dotpolka.net
As far as an apartment is concerned, the Island Trader is usually the best bet when searching (or just driving around and looking for signs). Call the DN and ask for "Circulation". They will mail you a Trader for $4. That way you can do a little reseacrh before you arrive. But, and this is just my opinion, an $800 maximum will severely limit your housing options for a one bedroom apartment, in a quiet area, not in town, that accepts pets. I'm not saying it CAN'T be found, but there just aren't that many in that range. Studios are readily available in nice areas for $7-800, though. And, be forewarned, it is NOT advisable to rent an apartment sight unseen. On the phone someone may say, "Yep, it's in a great area and it's really nice." And then when you get there you become nauseated. Most people won't even let you do rent from off island, as they want to meet you before they rent to you.
We'll be moving to STX in about a year (just bought a condo there though!) from Charlotte, NC! My husband is about your age...He just turned 30 and I'm 25...I know we're not there now and won't be on the same island but we'll all still have to hang out sometime!

Hey Bill -
My boyfriend and I are moving to STT soon also. We're both 30 and into watersports, hiking, biking etc. We'd also love to meet cool people to hang out with. We just bought a condo on the island and are closing next week...and we have two cats. My uncle actually lives in Asheville, NC so I've been there a bunch of times. It's great. Looking forward to meeting you and others.
