Hello, my name is Melissa. A friend and I are planning to move to St. John in mid November and we were wondering how to go about looking for a job before we get there. I've done a lot of searching the web, but I haven't found much. What would be the best way to find one? I was also wondering if there's a way to find a roommate before I move? Any information I could get would be very helpful!

I wouldn't really worry about getting a job before you go. A buddy and I went on a scouting trip and we decided the best thing to do is just show up and go from there. Same with getting a place to stay. Where are you from? There are a bunch of us moving from NJ if you want to meet up sometime

Good luck with your move.. I've been living on STT for about a month now and from what I've heard jobs & housing are going to be pretty tough to find in November. The season hasn't even picked up yet and people here are struggling to find housing. New people are arriving everyday, so the best advice I can give is to book a cabin at either the Cinnamon Bay or Maho Bay Campground.. or get a room at the Tamarind for a couple of weeks until you find housing. You may even need a month or so.. Good luck.

Melissa,

I'm also from NJ and I just moved to STJ on Tuesday. (2 days ago!)

In my experience, you won't be able to do much from where you are now. I made more progress in employment and housing in the last 2 days than I did in 6 months from NJ. Fact is, most jobs aren't posted and even when they are they really want to see you in person in order to hire you.

It will be very, very hard to find a place to live in STJ in mid-November. I'm seeing places dry up and I've only been here 2 days!

You can find a roommate right on these boards!! Check my other post on this subject.

See ya soon!!
