Moving to st. Croix
interesting, the talk of crime. per capita our murder rate is usually higher than chicago.
and we have had a lot of shootings lately
I really hate the Per Capita Argument.
What's the rate Per Square Mile?
Whoa. The "gang" violence, in St.Croix, isn't worst than Chicago. That statement was a reach. I'm born and raised here. I didn't grow up in great neighborhoods but I maintained. I left for 11 years, now I'm back, and I still fell relatively safe. How big is the worst parts of Chicago? Could you compare that to the size of St.Croix? Nothing against Chicago but we're not that bad.
Chicago Neighborhoods
Austin +/- 7sqmi 32 deaths/151 wounded
Englewood +/-3mi 29/133
Statistics show that 98% of statistics are made up on the spot.
why. it is factual . no distortions.

Now we got some good conversation going on. All I'm saying if someone is a bad person they are gonna find someone else to get in trouble with now everywhere has good and bad places its up to the individual to keep clear of those places
Reddog, I just noticed on another thread that you're already getting quotes to ship a vehicle to STX from stateside. I do hope that you're planning a serious PMV before deciding on a move.
With all due respect, I think you have a lot of misconceptions about living in the islands and are easily irritated by those who seek to better educate you and relate facts to you with which you disagree on the assumption that you're "different" from all the others who've come and gone.
Don't take this criticism unkindly. Those of us who've lived here for a long time have seen the regular procession of those who come and go with regularity.
Reddog, you and the betterhalf come on down. This forum has scared me, pissed me off and caused me to wonder why anyone reading this would come here. For islandlife they sure wring the life out of some issues. Life here is not as intense as some of our contributors. I personally try to stay away from vinues where these intensities exist. We're on an island in the Caribbean go to the beach, enjoy your gallery. But please come on down. Cheers! It is a simple life.

St Croix is 84 sq. Mi. as a correction about facts.
Thanks for the correction. My brain was thinking about how long it is, but I'm still off few miles.
out of how many people. dont give me sq miles. how many people get killed out of how many people live on island. that is ( to me ) a better representation. most data goes by per capita for a reason

Those numbers are year to date (Not full or last year)
If you live your life by statistics you'll be miserable.
I don't worry about it too much but I do try to be aware when I'm partying my face off in frederiksted at 3am. Haven't been shot yet in arguably the most "dangerous" place on STX. In fact I've met some freaking awesome people.
I think the folks who contribute here to newbies get annoyed when someone asks for advice, gets it and then it doesn't fit the picture they've painted for the islands and feel they'll be the exception. You're not a special snowflake. It's REAL life here. It's HARDER than living in the states for sure. You have work, play, friends, bills and all the S that comes with LIFE - we just have better views.
