Good afternoon,
We have been reviewing this board for about a year now and doing some research as to if we could feasibly move to the Virgin Islands in the future. It has been a lifelong dream and this board has been exceptional in being able to learn about the islands, get info and honest feedback, thank you! After visiting all 3 islands twice this year, we have decided to make the move now and have chosen St. Croix due to its cost of living, town and country feel and the people we have encountered. Actually, the people have been great from all 3 islands. My husband Tim, is in St. Croix now getting our living quarters set up, looking for employment, getting a vehicle etc., and I will join him in April. We would love to hear from those who have moved to St. Croix or have been living there a while to get more of their feedback on jobs, social groups, volunteer groups and basic newbie information. I also see that the group from the board gets together in STT and STJ off and on and wondered if they do so in STX or if they would like to? Thanks in advance for your information, I hope to meet some of you in the near future.
Jules and Tim

Hello Jules & Tim,

Glad the site has been of assistance to you and welcome! Have you read the "what to expect" stories on this site... they are written by folks who moved here and might give you some insight in what those people experienced after their intial move and during the settling in process. What sort of job will you and your husband be looking for? and hobbies/social things as well? I hope Linda and/or Ric will give you a hand with some of their experiences moving to St. Croix. Also yes a St. Croix get together is possible and can be planned!!

Islander,
Thanks for the information and yes, I think the "what to expect stories" are great, I look to be writing one soon. My husband would ideally like to work on the water, maybe a boat or marina but he also has his Hazardous Materials OSHA certificate so Hovensa might be an option. I have been in sales/pharmaceuticals for years but would like to look at something different and am open to various options. We love animals and would like to work and/or volunteer to help in some way and we enjoy being on the water and meeting up with friends, so I hope we do hear from Linda and Ric and can set up a STX meeting.
Thanks,
Jules and Tim

I am planning to move to the V.I. from Utah. It's going to be a very big change and was wondering if I could get any pointers from former mainlanders.

J & T,

Here are some links you might look at for leads and info-

Green Cay Marina (340)773-1453 http://www.usvi.net/hotel/tamarind/html/marina.htm

Look in the yellow pages for pharmacies - just to get an idea even though you said you want to get into something else - http://www.viphonebook.com

Hello Elise,

Your best bet is to ask lots of question rather then a general "give me some tip" type question. Read through the information on this web site and board and ask all the questions that come to mind, if you have 5,10, 20 questions go ahead and ask them... from how to get around the island to whether you will find your favorite brand of coffe or tea - ask!! You will get more answers that way.
