Just want to say, I am so excited about moving to the best Rock in the Caribbean. I can't wait. We are done raising our kids, have no obligations here and know we are never going to "reitire" so this will be the next best thing. We know it will not be easy, but, it will be for the dream we hold in our hearts and the love for each other and our dream that matters!

Wait a sec! "The Rock" is St Thomas. St Croix is "The Big Island" or "Twin City." 😎

But welcome to this section of Paradise!! 🙂

gtmouse: That is okay, but you may confuse people because the conventional nickname is Twin City. Kinda like saying you want to call New York City "The Big Easy."

Yes and no to the it can't be in any worse. Your on an island so its not like you can look for work in the next county. It the past its been if you come with a good work ethic and some computer skills etc, you'll find Something. Not your dream job but something to pay the bills while you find your way here. Getting a job on island is about networking. So it takes most a year or two or if ever to find a job they really like here. Normally I say bring 2 or 3 months worth of money ON TOP of getting set up money to find a job. The way things are now I really don't know. If you have a skill set or a career that is in demand, like nurses or teachers you should get lucky otherwise, save, save, save and save some more BEFORE you come.

Wow, that sounds depressing. We are moving in less than 5 weeks.

Moving here is exciting, its a beautiful tourist destination. But living here has many harsh realities. More people leave then stay. So when you make it here you feel like you've accomplished something. Although all you've usually accomplished is being hard headed! Good Luck.

The purpose of this forum is not to encourage people to come regardless of their circumstances and preparedness, but rather to help people understand the challenges of living here (everyone already understands the rewards.)

Twin City St Croix, Rock City St Thomas, Love City St John, Sugar City Tortola and many more nicknames -- all came about from the pre internet times when Radio ruled the airwaves and people all over the Caribbean listened in to hear news, views and music from the different islands.
