Moving to st croix for grad school
Hello. I'm currently in the process of preparing to move to St.Croix in a about a year for grad school. I will be brining my fiancé and three year old daughter with me. I will be obtaining a teacher certification while in st criox in hope to work as a teacher while going to grad school. Did any one else relocated to st Croix .. I'm a resident of Texas and have not the slightest idea of how much shipping my car and a few pieces of furniture . Does anyone have a general idea of cost ? How much would you recommend to save before making such a move. What is a friendly and affordable area to move a family to. I will be heading out that way in March to look for potential apartments. Any advice? I also have the option to move to st. Thomas .. Which island would you recommend?
There are several threads on here about shipping vehicles and, if you read the drop-down menus top of this page you'll find amongst a huge amount of general information, information about moving household items, furniture and cars - and names of several companies who take care of it.
If your grad course is offered both on St Croix and St Thomas then it would be sensible to visit both islands during your pre move visit to see which would better suit you and your family. Neither is better than the other but they're quite different so that choice is one which only you can make. Good luck with the planning - I'd suggest you read everything there is to read here and plan to spend at least a week on each island during your PMV.

No, we are all natives.
Just kidding:D There is much discussion in the forum and advise you are looking for in the links a the top of the page. Suggest studying that first then coming back with more specific questions. We can write novels about STX v.s. STT without knowing more details to base a recommendation on. Both are fine but different and there are pros and cons with each. STX may be a little less expensive for housing and car brakes. Can you do your grad school on STT? Shipping furniture may not pay unless/until you decide how long to stay. Shipping a car probably makes more sense as long as you have clear title in hand and will be here for a year or more. You will probably want to sell it on island v.s. shipping it back. "affordable" may be a term of relativity. Most areas are going to be friendly. If you are considering working as a teacher you probably want to start with options for that. Is fiancé looking for a job too? Another consideration. Plan on having $10-15K in the bank, it will go fast.
scubadoo, i wanted to write that too. lol
