moving to paradise!
My family is considering moving to the usvi. I am a registered nurse currently working as a director for a home health agency. I have been unable to locate any home health agencies on the islands. I also have 7 years experience in ICU/ER/PACU My husband is
a commercial building contractor /superintendent.
We have to 2 sons in middle school. I wonder if anyone can give us a little feedback on the public schools, healthcare industry or the construction market.
Dear Nutty: The only Medicare certified Home Health agency is Seaview Health Care Services. Their number on St Thomas is 340 775-1660. They also have an office on St Croix, but I can't seem to put my finger on the number. The Roy L Schneider Hospital www.rlshospital.org would welcome you, as well as the Juan Luis Hospital on St Croix (I can't find ANY STX numbers for you! Islander-HELP!!) There are lots of nursing opportunities. You are probably going to want to look at private schools for the middle school level...
Hey Nutty Nurse - Let us know how you make out with the job search. My wife is an ER nurse and I'm looking to retire in a few years. I'm making her work while I sit on the beach and keep the drinks cold. It's great to be married to a younger woman 🙂
Dear fellow Nutty nurse:
I am considering taking a travel nursing position in the USVI for 13 weeks next summer. It seemed like a good way to explore the islands and have some fun. I am planning to bring my husband and my 12 yr old daughter with me. Have you thought about travel nursing? I have done lots of home health but also labor/delivery/postpartum which is the position I would take traveling. Let me know if you end up in the islands.
Hello,
The Schneider Hospital on St. Thomas - has a new web site - same domain that East Ender gave though and they have jobs listed. And the St. Croix web site is http://www.jflusvi.org/
What type of work would your husband be looking for? Perhaps looking in the yellow pages www.viphonebook.com for relevant companies and calling for information might help.
Private schooling might be a better option then public middle schools, as suggested.
You might order the Settlers Handbook on moving and living in the USVI to help you prepare and get information. http://www.vitraders.com

you really want to look into private schooling. unfortunately public schooling here leaves a lot to be desired.
