moving to islands in 2012 need info please
i am moving to the island with my buddy next year sometime and was curious if there was anyplace i could get updated cost of living information
any help would be greatly appreciated
If you can access the Virgin Island Daily News and its weekly classified publication called Island Trader where you can read the apt.'s for rent, cars for sale and any food-supermarket ads. If not online it would probably be worth a subscription by mail.
There are quite a few threads available here using the search function.
The classified forum here also has rental and items for sale info.
The cost of living here is higher than many areas of the USA on most things especially if you must maintain a lifestyle that approximates suburban mainland conveniences.Rents are cheaper than NYC metro - real estate and home prices are below many places like Boston, San Diego, D.C. suburbia etc.
Electricity costs are higher than almost anywhere in the US - since we must produce all our own power and have no connection to a nationwide grid system.
thanks i will look into that
there is actually gonna be about 2-3 of us coming and we all work in the restaurant indusrty of some sort...we figure we can come there with about 15-18k and get a good start on things....also im an EMT so what are the medic jobs like on the island?
Which island are you moving to? Prices, especially for real estate, vary by island. STX is the cheapest, and STJ is the most expensive..
well its a toss up between croix and thomas...croix cuz its cheaper but thomas because of the resorts and cruise ships coming in and knowing there is more than likely guaranteed work
we arent looking to be lavish just get by and have a few $$ in our pockets to have a life lol
Please don't forget the "Saint" on the beginning of the names of the islands.
my bad sorry
My buddies girlfriend works at a place here in Red Hook & she works the day shift, she made $300 in tips.....on a Tuesday.
You get in at the right kind of place & have the right kind of personality, you can make enough here to survive.
