Moving to either St. Thomas or St. Croix
Good Evening everyone!
My husband and I plan on moving to either St. Thomas or St. Croix in about two years. Neither of us have a college degree and we both come from a banking industry. My husband will be working full time while I work part time and go to school at the University of the Virgin Islands to major in Nursing. Does anyone have any suggestions on finding living arrangements that allows pets and anything else that might be helpful? Also, I am 20 and he is 21. I don't know if that matters.
Good night!
Also, the pets are two cats and one 10 lb. dog
Last thing...I would be interested in working in a bank or a hotel full time for a year until I got residency and then work part time while I go to school....Have a great evening! (Or should I say morning for all the Islanders?!)
You should have no problem finding work or going to school. Save some $$ and come down for a visit. Split your time between STT and STX and see which suits you. Then go back home and REALLY start saving $$$. I would consider $10,000 as a reasonable amount.
When you get closer to arrival, start selling your things, and decide whether to ship your vehicle or buy here. Finally, make arrangements to send your stuff, reserve a place to stay for a week or two and come on down. After you're here you can look for a permanent place and jobs.
I reccomend arriving in late October. Early enough to find an apartment, but close enough to "season" to find work.
Good luck.
Thanks so much! I will remember to arrive in October.
Hello there. I noticed that someone suggested coming for a visit before a move. Excellent advice. I did that several times and it made a world of difference once I arrived here. I knew people, and where things were such as banks and medical services.
If you do a pre-move visit to St. Croix, I do rent out for movers only a couple of inexpensive but very clean and nice quarters (one guest room, one efficiency apartment).
If that is of any support, just drop me a note at Affiliationllc@aol.com, and we can make arrangements. I did this as a trial, and it seems to be working quite well so I'm going to continue. It certainly is not a get rich quick plan at all. It just helps to save money for the things you will really need to invest in when moving (which can run into a formidable sum)...
Also, you might, when the time gets closer to moving, I strongly suggest calling the airlines regarding the transport of animals. Some airlines have recently changed policies in which they do not allow pets. When I brought two dogs, it took twelve hours on the phone to make the booking (I waited to long to start checking this aspect out).
Warm regards,
Dan
