Welcome to St Thomas! You might check the Facebook page "What's Going on St Thomas" as they frequently have rentals. BTW, I don't think there is a "no mold" place in the tropics.

Yes, there is.

Sure there is. Lived on STT for 12 years before first coming across it and even now where I live on the damper side of the island it only creeps onto part of my deck when the sun moves around for about 3 months of the winter. Had one small spot once in the bathroom which quickly wiped off with a bleach solution but other than that nothing inside.

Just checking in, arrived yesterday, drove around for a few hours to get my bearings. I start work today, and will be starting to look at some apartments I've lined tonight.

I just want to thank you all again for all the great advice. This is absolutely the right move for me at this stage in my life.

Just an update for everyone that's been so helpful here. I am loving my promotion and my office staff is awesome. I think I hit the jackpot when I got the job in STT. I have found an apartment, on Crown Mt. Rd, about 2 miles from my office at Nisky. So far I am loving it here, and I don't expect that to change. Are there infrastructure problems here? Certainly. It's very different than living stateside, but I'm loving every minute an embracing the changes. Thanks everyone.

Infrastructure?
You mean like electrical power, pothole ridden roads, water pollution, lack of well lit roads, dividing lines and edging on roads, um... lack of recycling and trash strewn roadsides?

Idlewood4, so glad you're enjoying the transition, and congrats on finding a place to rest your head. Love your attitude and seeing the level of the water in the glass so optimistically. So much healthier than dwelling on the negatives, whatever the subject! Enjoy!

Alana33, yup just add corruption and you pretty well have it covered. But as the Monty Python song goes, "Always look on the Bright Side of Life." I really do feel like I'm hit the lottery jackpot. There's pluses and minuses to everything. It's all on perspective.

The one thing that bothers me most is no recycling. I plan to purchase minimal recyclables. And want to know how crazy I am? I have a large suitcase that was going back with me empty when I fly stateside tomorrow for my daughter's college graduation. I'm planning on filling it with all the plastics I've accumulated and recycle them in Mass. Can't imagine what they'll think when they scan that bag at the airport, but it's going to be checked.

OldTart, I'll be getting in touch about plants at some point. Not moving in until July 15 due to some travels I had planned previously.

My sister and brother in law are heading to FL next week.
He's doing the same thing with the plastics they've accumulated.
