Ok...so we are kicking around a few ideas and St Croix is one of them. Just really unsure as to the lifestyle. We are a young professional couple with a 6 year old. Any advice or ideas would be most welcome. My husband can easily relocate for work there within his company so its just standard questions. Best places to live, how to find such places online, school information; is it up to par with that of mainland schools. just any and all info i guess

hi,

i have a bookmark folder for the USVI and sub-folders for various topics related to it. overall, much of the information you need to know is already on this website. look at the orange menu bar at the top. it took me a while to read through everything and i was surprised at how detailed this site in particular is. so i would begin there and you might find all of your questions are asked and answered.

tubbyscubby... relax... part of the joy of St. Croix is just diving into it sight unseen. What you really need to do is come and visit and make your own opinion. That is the best way to figure out if you should live here.

@uuaww, i don't have an employer. when i move, my business moves and when i decide to move, i move...after researching. wherever i go, i need to maintain USPS rates. that limits my choices to US territories. in addition, owning a business means i must be careful and nmp if others don't appreciate how complicated that is.

my moving to USVI isn't a question of if, it's a question of when. i'll do a PMV but you're talking to a woman who almost moved to Dallas because it sounded cool (seriously say "Dallas" without feeling as if you need to do jazz hands). i doubt if the PMV will deter me...especially if i'm financially secure once i arrive.

will i be there the rest of my life? probably not. at least 3 years or more (barring a hurricane of exponential proportions)? easily.

don't curb my enthusiasm :X

There are no "best" places to live, as you will find shacks and mansions next to one another; local housing really isn't found online, you have to see places in person; and public schools here are not on par with the public schools in the states, and if you use the search function on this site you will find lots of discussion about schools.

I heard recently that the VI public schools are rated 2nd worst in the US public school system next to Guam.
Everyone I've spoken with who has school-age children seems to send their kids to private school.

For the record - I don't like to post things like this without any evidence, so I'm looking it up right now.... in the meantime, Just what I heard when asking some people about having kids on Island.

If you are moving here from a stateside school system it is very likely you will want to send your children to private school -- the older they are the more likely.

I have two kids, ages 11 and 7 and send them both to Country Day School. The kids absolutely LOVE the school (although it's only been 3 weeks), and the staff is awesome. However, both of the major private schools on island are roughly $11K per year per child, so it's quite a cost commitment. Please do yourself a favor and spend a lot of time on research and plan a pre-move visit. We're still brand new here, but knowing a lot before we got here has been invaluable!

We are also considering a move (have two small children as well). I'm assuming that reading the relocation guide is step #1, and if we are still up for it the PMV is step #2?
