Fisrt of all this is the best web board. I have learned tons of info....so thanks to everybody. Here is my question: Does any body have any advice on moving to the island with a boyfriend/girlfriend? I know that this is a fairly random question but it is the main one on my mind. Does anybody know any horrible and or great stories of couples that have moved to the island together? I am 24 and my girlfriend is 23. Thanks again for all the help

Chris,

It depends entirely on how committed you are to each other I suppose and to the amount of compromising you are willing to do in terms of moving to a new place. I have known couples that moved down and broke up both people staying and doing their own thing, some where one person hated it and left, some where one hated it and so they both left, some where they stayed and everything was great.

I think you might be asking if the move and island life is such that the place itself might create a problem and cause a breakup.... its intirely possiable but I don't think its the place but the persons reaction to the place and to the person themselves.

If you guys are tight and want to live together, move together, grow together and a move to the islands is something you want to do together then do it, be open and make it work.

Do you research well so you both have realistic expections, read this board, read the moving guide on this site, get the settlers handbook, make a plan of where you might work, maybe plan a pre-move visit if that is possiable so you can see what things are like particularly if you have never been there. And start planning thngs.

All the best Chris!!

Thanks for the qucik response. You hit the nail right on the head.!!! You are right i think that my major concern was that the island and some of the issues that come up in adjusting to island life would become a problem. We are planning on coming to the island in Dec/Jan to visit and get a feel for the island. We are both divers and recently got back form the caymans and loved it there. But it was very pricey. We would be planning on moving late next spring or summer during the off season. Do you think that is a good idea? Thanks again

Not sure how important this is to you, but I have heard from many single people that it is REALLY hard to find significant others on STT. NOt sure how true that is and not sure how it is affected by age, profession, etc.

I have to agree with Onika. Most younger couples I know down here moved down here together. I would reccommend bringing her whether it's a serious commitment or not. Bring her down, have fun and see what happens. At least you both will know someone.

Cheers,

Matt
