I am looking at moving to the Islands in the next few months. I have a 2005 Yamaha R6 sport bike that I really want to bring. I really would care not to sell it. Are there any riders in the Islands that would make it worth bringing?

I am looking at St. Thomas, but possibly St. Croix. I have never really looked so in depth as to which one I wanted to move to, I just seem to visit a few times a year at this point. I am going to go down again a in a few months and start really focusing on where I would want to live, which I am sure I will notice many more things in the process then my visits. Would one be better then the other for motorcyclists? My options are very open.

I dunno much about STX, but I know that STX would be better for bikes due to the roads. Here in STT there aren't very many of us. The last Harley Cruise by Royal Caribbean brought down about 22 bikes and there were only about 10 of us that met them and showed them around the isle. There are maybe 25 Harley's on island. Another 30 or 40 other bikes. I've been riding a bike here for over 7 years, and I love it. No traffic to worry about, the weather is great everyday, the views while riding are awesome.

Were I you,I wouldn't base my decision of which island by bikes, though. Go with the one you feel most comfortable on and employment possibilites for your field.

Keep the rubber side down!

The employment is not going to be an issue, as I own an internet related business here stateside and I will be continuing work from where I plant my feet. I ride a lot, and it is a very big part of my life, I guess after hurrican season I will be back down there and take more of a focused look at some of these variables.

I coming down for my pre move visit next week and was hoping the roads were decent to ride on. I've been riding streetbikes for a while and have been roadracing for the last year. I quit racing last month and sold my R6 so I could move. I'm going crazy not being able to ride. I think I'm going to ship over a supermoto bike as soon as I can afford it. They are great for tight twisty roads, especially if the traction isn't great. What are the speed limits? Are the police strict on speeding?(I'm not an irresponsable rider, I met a guy at a racebike shop from STT and we talked for a while and he said the police don't really worry about speeding) Cheers, Mark

Speeding is not a big issue here. Max limit is 35. Traffic is the problem. If you are racing around a corner, you never know what you may find around it. Could be a cow, an iguana, a goat, a taxi stopped to let someone in/out, a tourist taking a pic, etc. STT is not a 'go fast' place to ride. Not for me, anyway!

And this is what the gobbledygook was supposed to look like up there:
