What are the laws for driving a motorcycle on St. Croix? I've read a lot of the threads about how dangerous it is and everything, but do you need a motorcycle license? I've raced motocross my whole life, but never got around to getting my street license up here in the states because i never got around to getting a bike. i am moving to STX on oct. 1st, and am contemplating getting a bike at some point. If you do need a license, what is the process? here in Wisconsin, you have to take a 16 hour course before you can take your test....

any help would be great

thanks!

Jon

I paid to take one of those coarse in California to make get mine easier. And even though I had been riding for several years it taught me alot I didn't know and had never thought of. Stx I think is the best island to have a bike on, but all of them are much risker then stateside. After my first year here I got rid of my bike. It was very hard to keep up the maintenance (only one or two mechanics) and its just too easy to flattened. Too many blind curves with oncoming traffic driving in the center of the road or tourist forgetting which side of the road to drive on, gravel roads, massive potholes, etc... Not to mention it rains here all the time.

Kieren...did you already get your VI driver's license? If not...when you do go get it, ask them to put a motorcycle endorsement on it. Eventually you will need a motorcycle license, not sure how soon..could be this year...could be 5 yrs from now. But those who have that endorsement automatically get a motorcycle license...those that don't will need to go through whatever process. This came from someone on the VIPD.

I've been driving my bikes here for about 8 years, and I don't have an endorsement on my license, cuz on the back it says "Class D - Motorcycle Only" I believe that means that with the cycle endorsement, it's not valid for cars? Is this true? You'd think that after 11 yeears here I'd know what I'm talking about, wouldn'tcha? haha!
