I'll be moving to St. Thomas this summer and starting college there in September. I previously lived on Ambergris Caye, Belize. A small island where the only cars were golf carts. While living there I got around the island on a little motorized scooter. ITs like a miny motorcycle. I was wondering if this would be practical on St. Thomas. I visiited there many years ago but I don't remember too much. Thanks-Lissa

Sorry-I just used the search button and got my answer. So thanks anyway. I saw that a one bedroom apartment runs about $1,000/month. I was wondering if there are cheaper places. I don't need anything fancy, or even decent looking. Just functional. Also, I'm a hip-hop dancer-i've been in one music video and do a lot of break dancing performances around here. I was wondering if there are any clubs that play hip-hop, i also like dancehall. ONe more thing, are there any community centers or anything that would let me teach a hip-hop/jazz and/or a ballet class? I'd be willing to do it for free. Its one thing I've always wanted to do around here but never did and I know when I was living on Ambergris Caye the LIons club did have one lady teaching some dance classes and it was a big hit. Hope someone can help. Peace-Lissa

I am going to either buy a scooter on STT or buy one & have it shipped from Miami. I can get a 150cc shipped to STT for <$2000.00 so I will check the prices when I arrive there & if the price from Miami can't be beat I will biuy & ship.

What are you going to study in STT? Would you be interested in working to pick up some Xtra money?

Click my name here & email me.

Hmmm can a motorized scooter really get around all the steep hills on St. Thomas?

Just wondering....

Hello Lissa,

You can use a motorized scooter but a car is a much better idea for several reasons: the roads are really steep in some areas, drivers are not used to motorcycles and scooters so don't really look out for them, if it rains (we get short showers fairly often, usually in the am, although lately we have gotten quite a bit of rain) you will be stuck, a car is easier to carry shopping stuff, laundry ect.

You can find a one bedroom for less then $1000... you could find a nice studio apartment for maybe around $600... the prices depends on furnishings, view ect.

Dancing Suggestions: Contact http://www.reichholdcenter.com/homepage.html
get information on Star Fest, about participating and/or coaching. Also contact Virgin Islands Institute of Performing Arts at (340)777-9110 they teach tap, ballet, jazz among other things like piano, gymnastics. Also contact Antilles School http://www.antilles.k12.vi.us/
and Montessori (340)775-6360 - I don't remember which one offers dance as an alternate to PE perhaps they might welcome your skill as a teacher's assistant of some sort. For volunteering you might contact the Dept. of Education and see if they have any afterschool programs, maybe the Rotary or Lions Club help you get in touch with some youth groups.

Good Luck.

Islander -Someone just told me today that Plantation Manor or Plantation Inn has studios starting at $450.00/month. This is on the south face of the mountain heading to Caret Bay. He said there are reasonable 1 & 2 bdrm available there also.
