Mosquitos
Does St. Thomas have Mosquitos or any other bugs that are a pest for people living there?
We have Mosquitos. They are often found outdoors or in very open houses, expecially during rainy season - as they lay eggs in water - so with more stagnent water comes more mosquitos. They are not a pest or a problem in St. Thomas but they exist. You can buy Off - insect repellent at the local stores - and use it when you will be eating outdoors in the evening. In particular the mosquitos will bite your ankles and legs - as they will be under the table where the mosquitos usually hide - so if you are going to use Off - spray it on your legs. Some outdoor restaurants and bars will have a bottle of Off inside in case you need it. During the day, say on the beach you won't have a problem. If it is raining and you are on the beach in the late afternoon - we have little 'no - see - ums' that live around the sand - and they will bite.
Thank you very much for the information I really appreciate it.

My experience has been that Off does not work. Repel is the better buy. And really, mosquitos are only bad during hurricane season, when the islands get a lot of rain. I think the months are like July-November. Year-round, you have to battle the no-seeums, which live around some beaches and are often bad just before dusk. Avon Skin So Soft works best for the no-seeums.
