Hello,

My wife and I recently moved to the North side of SST. Depsite being up fairly high on a hill on the second story of a house with a constant breeze across our deck, we get attacked by mosquitos when outside (especially at twilight). I read a thread about the Mosquito Magnet, and I had a few questions about it.

1) What brand does Tom install?

2) Will the constant breeze make the device ineffective?

3) What is the approx cost for install and maintainence?

Any suggestions about mosquito control would be greatly welcomed...

Thanks!

SST? St. Thomas? (STT)

Mosquito Magnet is the brand, I believe.
Call him for more details.

I love the Zapper!
It's 10 bucks at Marina Market.

Tried all kinds of mosquito control- devices, potions, lotions.

Keep going back to:

1. Get rid of standing water
2. Make sure your rooms/windows are screened
3. Use DEET- I think the Off Outdoor Fresh smells the best.
4. Have a grand ol' time zapping the ones that sneak in behind you when you come in a room- with The Zapper.

Best,

LR

On a bridgeless barrier island in south Florida, we have a Mosquito Magnet. Its an older model but in any case has the "Octonol" (sp?) cartridge, doesn't require electricity, and uses a standard propane tank (like the kind that comes with your gas grill). Our lot is 240 ft deep x 80 ft wide. We keep the device under our house (which is on stilts) and after the first week of operation (we don't have to use it in the winter months) we have very few mosquitos, if any. We are very pleased with this device. We have had to replace the "Octonol" (sp?) cartridges maybe using 2 per year. We empty the little bag (where the dehydrated mosquitos are stored within the device) off the dock and into the canal behind our house and the fish LOVE the meal.

The only thing we've noticed is that we do not want to put our party / sitting area next to the Mosquito Magnet because the mosquitos find US before it gets to the Magnet.

I am only a satisfied customer. I have no affiliation with the company or supplier of Mosquito Magnet.

We have a magnet here and we can notice a difference when it shuts off because of running out of propane. Tom has been great, a lizard got stuck in the fan one day and I couldn't figure out for the life of me why I couldn't get the thing to work and I called him in desperation and he came over and figured out the problem in less than 30 seconds.

He stands behind what he sells. It does take some maitenance but I think Tom even has service contracts if you dont wanna deal with it. My advice is have 2 propane tanks, it is soooo much easier having a tank right there. Since I have a propane grill I have 3 tanks and that spare tank helped in a pinch at a BBQ party.

You can get them filled down in Subbase by the WAPA plant for $14 or swap them at Home Depot for $20+ but they run out all the time.
