So, HUD has basically closed Sea View: http://stthomassource.com/content/news/local-news/2016/09/27/sea-view-residents-moved-after-feds-express-grave-concern-over-ca
For three years the old owners and the new caretakers of the facility have been unable to come up with a plan to become compliant with CMS. I didn't see in Mapp's 5 year plan any hint of improving long term care in the VI. This creates a burden on all of us. Medicare does not pay for long term care. How many people have a plan if they are unable to live independently?

I don't know, East Ender.
It's truly a shame that Sea View couldn't be saved.

I will say tho that many years ago when my mother needed full-time nursing care, we checked Sea View out and decided not to use their facility. We decided to keep her home with hired help (she didn't need nurses) and under our supervision. It basically cost the same, it was better for her to be in familiar surroundings where we could check on her and visit, daily.

I realize that's not an option nor financially feasible for many.
I'm grateful it worked for us.

Healthcare options in the VI, while better than it used to be, still leaves a lot to be desired, especially if uninsured.
